06 Oct PSYCHOLOGY OF WINNING By BRIAN TRACY
I had recently read about Brian Tracy, had joined his Face Book Page, and started liking his work. I am yet to read one of his books. On recommendation of Murali , a friend I made recently, I flew from Mumbai to Chennai to attend his seminar on ‘Psychology of Winning’.
It was a treat to see a man who has a physical challenge and yet he is mentally so alert. He came on a wheel chair, sat on a high chair and from 10 am to 4 pm kept a large audience totally engrossed. He gave us some simple but effective tips of success, goal setting, etc. He followed the ‘Workbook method’ where we filled in the blanks. There was no powerpoint. But there was no interactive session, no question answers, not even in the end. That was what I missed, as I had a few questions, but we never had an opportunity.
I will be writing some of my major benefits from the seminar here, tomorrow.
Change is the most influencing factor in our lives today. Information is doubling every 2-3 years, technology is accelerating and competition is more creative, competent, aggressive and determined than ever before. With more change and competition, there are far more opportunities than ever before.
Change is inevitable, unavoidable and continuous. Whether U want to be a ‘master’ of change or its ‘victim’ or a slave – its purely Ur Choice !
There is a lot of fierce competition for the future. The best way to predict future is to create it. Those who do not plan / prepare for the future, cannot have one. U can easily predict what skills U need after 5 years. Plan and prepare, acquire them NOW. I must learn to pay a price for the future. It comes to me like a train. The closer it comes the more difficult it is for me to react.
One can look around and see why some people are successful while others are not. Success is not an accident !! GOD is neutral, so is nature !! Success comes from failure. Double your rate of failure if you want to be successful !
Learn the Law of ‘Cause and Effect’ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Causality) Its the grandfather of all laws. “Everything happens for a reason.”
What is the most important, most valuable, most highly paid work you do ??
Think. You become what you think most of the time. What do successful people think about most of the time? Thoughts are like a high powered pistol. Your mind is so powerful. Power of your mind is so powerful ! A focused mind is a powerful mind. Successful people talk and think about WHAT they want and HOW to get it.
Think on paper. What you write gets embedded in your subconscious mind – as u do it physically, u say it and u see it.
You can change your life because you can change the way you think. Thinking is the only thing you have full control on.
It takes ONE single thought to change your entire life. HOW – triggers your creative instinct.
Optimism. The most important single quality for success and happiness is optimism. Optimism is a form of mental fitness that is learned by practice. Optimism is learnable ! Learn a lesson from each problem / challenge in your life. Optimists take a positive, constructive view towards themselves and their lives. They have an unrealistic expectation of success. They are willing to attempt new things – they are prepared to fail ! They use the ‘law of probability’ in their favour. There is a probability that anything can happen. You can influence probability.
Most people lack clarity which is the most important single word in personal success.
You must be clear about your goals
You must be absolutely clear about what you WANT in life.
You must be clear about how will you measure success when it comes.
You must be clear about your key activities.
What do successful people do? Top ten percent people think about their future most of the time. They set their goals and ‘work’ on them. They write down their goals and sub goals and set a schedule for completion. They monitor progress. They make a list. They prioritize it.
Organise your list into a plan – and then work on it!
Commit to excellence to join the top 10% Club, or settle down to be a mediocre. Lazy and indisciplined people are not in the race. The future belongs to the competent.
Seven Rules for the 21st Century
1. Your life only gets better (externally) when YOU get better (internally).
2. It doesnt matter where you are coming from. All that matters is where you are going.
3. Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly at first. be prepared to make mistakes. Double your failure rate!
4. You are only as free as your well developed options.
5. Within every obstacle or difficulty you face, there is a seed of an equal or greater opportunity or benefit.
6. You can learn anything you need to learn to achieve any goal you can set for yourself.
7. The only real limits on what you can do are the ones you impose on yourself by your own doubts and fears.
