U talk too much

U talk too much

A very talkative child…
Thats a line from my first report card from Loreto Convent Shimla, maybe in 1955.
Every one at home said I talked too much !
Ond day, many years later, when I must have been 15, I was narating a story to my friend in the presence of my Grand father. I told him that he used to say that if kept quiet for 10 mins he would give me 10 bucks. my Grandfather interrupted and said, “thats wrong! I said if you keep quiet for ONE minute i will give you 10 bucks.
life went on…. I went to Sainik School, and as the report card here was only figurative and not subjective the remark on talking vanished. My parents thought Sainik School had done me good. They were disappointed  when in Cl IX I went to HMI (Himalayan Mountaineering Institute), Darjeeling. I got a high grade with an outstanding report but the last line read
‘A bit talkative at times’
Well, today I talk and talk and people sit quietly and listen to me, and then also pay me for it !!
