12 Feb Meeting Sachin Tendulkar
I am not a cricket player. Nor do I follow cricket much. Nor am I a fan of celebrities.
Yet, I have always thought of Sachin Tendulkar differently. I see him often on the screen, or read about him and think there is something different about him. I dont know whether it is his innocent face, or his sincerity to the game, or his loyalty to the team, or his sense of devotion, dedication and commitment, a great Leader and also a team player, but all this has created a very good impression on me and I have always liked him.
While I was posted in Udhampur in 1995-96, I had a good friend named Brig Gupta. His daughter, Priya, is a very close friend of Sachin’s wife, Anjali. I remember asking Priya if I could be introduced to Sachin. My desire grew stronger when I decided to hang my uniform and start an Outbound Adventure and Training Camp and I thought Sachin could be the right choice to inaugurate our camp. Well, the circumstances were such that we started the camp without an inauguration.
Now, in my training sessions, I quote his example in many aspects of leadership and team building and in many leadership traits his name pops up.
Today, I went to MCA for a meeting with a close friend, Subroto. And as I entered I found Sachin with a few fans in the lobby. I took the opportunity of walking up to him and introducing myself. It was a good experience and a nice feeling as he met me so well. He was humble and nice. I am happy I met him
