Goal Setting Workshop At Bharat Vidya Bhavan, Kuwait
D.R. Pratyusha of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan interviewed me after the Activity Based workshop on Goal Setting. The article written by her is reproduced below.’

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan witnessed a very interactive and enlightening talk on “Goal Setting” on the 25th of May. Brigadier Sushil Bhasin, a great defense personnel known for his discipline, leadership, and team-building skills proved that it wasn’t an ordinary talk, but a series of interactive activities through which the students learned a lot. Brig. Bhasin termed this as experimental learning.

He started off with the main objective of life–to be successful and love what you do. “Unfortunately, not many people know their purpose in life”, he said.
Volunteers were required to come onto the stage for an activity involving teamwork, and what a mad rush it was to be a part of the selected twenty-four!

The students learned the following values through the activity:

1. Failures are stepping stones to success.
2. We often underestimate ourselves.
3. United we stand, divided we fall.
4. Plan, strive, and achieve!
5. Look at SMART goals.
6. Don’t look back, always face forward in life.
7. Love what you do.
8. Keep improving upon past results.

On behalf of the students, D.R. Pratyusha asked a few questions.

Q. Why did you decide to move on to “helping children”, when you were about to reach the peak of excellence in your career?

A: There are times when there is a “calling for you”. I had to take over as the Chairman of an Army School in Bardoli as a part of my duties in the army.
The school was in a bad shape. You see when you put your child in a school, you have a lot of expectations from the institution. I had to do something about this. It was then that I resolved to change this school in six months. And I did it! I did my office work at night and looked after the complaints of each student individually.
The two thousand children were very happy, and they gifted me with many handmade things. When they expressed their gratitude, it really touched me. It was then that I realized that this is indeed my true passion–to see children smile.

Q. What are your main activities currently?

A. The problem today is, there is a huge gap between what we think and what we do. The students graduating out of college today are not yet ready to face the real world. This is where we step in.

I am running a training company of my own- EMPOWER. In a nutshell, we conduct CORPORATE TRAINING & EDUCATION. There are also leadership camps. We believe in training the next generation to walk on the path of progress.

The Principal of Indian Educational School, Mr. T.Premkumar thanked Brigadier Bhasin and the Indian Frontliners for giving the students an opportunity to think differently and work to achieve their dreams.
